KES Science Fair Tradition Continues
3/12/2010 1:52:25 PM
Kossuth Elementary School is proud to announce that their science fair tradition continues.  KES once again represented the Region IV Mississippi Science and Engineering Fair as the overall Class I first place winner.  They also took the overall Class II second place in the fair. A school receives these honors by acquiring the highest number of projects to earn first through fifth place during the science fair, which was conducted at the Northeast MS Community College campus on March 9, 2010.  Hundreds of students from surrounding schools in Northeast Mississippi participated in the competition.  KES takes great pride in the fact that the school has been the overall first place winner in nine out of the last ten years.  The administration and science fair committee issues an Aggie “thank you” to our parents and students who have worked so diligently to prepare quality projects that helped bring this recognition to our school.
Student Mentors Vow to Make a Difference
3/8/2010 9:59:36 AM
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, and become more, you are a leader." - John Quincy Adams

One of the greatest honors for our ASD high school students is to be chosen as a mentor.  They come highly recommended by staff members as well as their peers.  Good mentors will uphold the highest standards, do their best to be good role models, be honest, have integrity, and be above reproach morally.  These student mentors dedicate themselves to making a difference on their campus and in their community by considering the needs of others before their own, serving instead of being served, and giving instead of getting.  We are so very proud of their example and their choice to invest their lives in encouraging younger students to discover the tremendous potential that lies within them.  Thank you, student mentors, for your deep commitment to the success of others by helping them discover their dreams and formulating a plan to turn their dreams into reality.  Thank you for your actions that inspire them to dream more, learn more, and become more.  You are a leader!

Tales from the Crypt
3/2/2010 11:16:04 AM
The Egyptians believed that if you spoke someone’s name aloud you granted that person immortality. Recognizing that there is some truth to these beliefs, English IV students in Mrs. Lewis’ class at ACHS honored those buried in local cemeteries and explored their regional relevance by attempting to uncover and tell their life stories.

Mrs. Lewis’ students spent the fall semester working on their research papers, “Tales from the Crypt.” Students spent the first week in October learning the project's requirements, which consisted of researching a person who had resided and was buried in Alcorn County. All of the seniors were encouraged to research someone who had made an impact on the community of Corinth/Alcorn County. After the assignment was introduced, Mrs. Rebecca Lewis, Mrs. Connie Lambert, and Mr. Phil Smith chaperoned a field trip to some of the local cemeteries so that students could begin selecting topics for their research. The Corinth National Cemetery made the biggest impact on the students and teachers alike.

After their field trip, students selected topics for research and began the process of research. They most enjoyed the opportunities they had to interview family and friends of the person they selected. Once all of the papers are graded, Mrs. Lewis and the students would like to find an opportunity to share them with the
public.
