  • Scholarship Notes for Seniors
Seniors, just a reminder that if you are going to college, and haven't taken the ACT, you must do so ASAP!!  The next two remaining dates are April 14 (registration deadline March 9) and June 9 (registration deadline May 4).

Also, if you plan to go to NEMCC, you MUST complete the Federal Need Based Financial Aid Application (FAFSA) for two reasons:  1) You may qualify for financial aid for school next year and 2) You are required to complete this application to qualify for the Guaranteed Tuition Program.  This application is called the FAFSA or Pell Grant.  Grants do NOT have to be paid back.

You may access FAFSA in three ways:  1)  Go to www.fafsa.gov to apply online (preferred), 2) Go to www.fafsa.gov: click "Start Here" and click "Filing Options" to download and print out a paper copy or 3) Call the U. S. Department of Education at 1-800-433-3243 or 1-319-337-5665 to have a copy mailed to you.

A reminder that college-bound seniors need to apply for State Financial Aid.  This includes MTAG and other financial aid that students may qualify for.  That site is www.mississippi.edu: click on the rise up section or "Applying for State Aid", then "State Aid," then click "Submit New."  The counselor will forward 7 semester grade point averages to the State Financial Aid office in mid-February.  All the senior has to do is provide the State with a proof of residence.  Seniors must have a 15 on the ACT and a 2.5 GPA in order to qualify for the $500 grant.  Seniors will be notified by the State FInancial Aid office by late Spring/early Summer of their status.

Seniors going to NEMCC should fill out the NE Scholarship Application and submit it by the APRIL 1 scholarship priority deadline to NE.  The counselor must sign off on this application confirming GPA and ACT scores.  Line 6 on the back of this application is where the student should list any of the scholarships NE has to offer.  The application itself has information about ACT, GPA, Leadership and Career Incentive Scholarships.

For information about other NE scholarships, go to www.nemcc.edu.  From the home page, click on "Scholarships."  The scholarships on the left side of the page will be handled by the NE Financial Aid office, and should be applied for on line 6 of the application.  The ones on the right side of the page are handled by the NE Foundation, and instructions are given as to how one may download and print out an application.  Many of the scholarships listed on the left side of the page are also listed in the NE catalogue on pages 52-58.  Mrs. Grisham and Mrs. Lewis will have a coy of those also.

Time is drawing near!! Seniors that haven't already done so, should make preparation for college and future plans.
