  • KMS FBLA Delivers Toys to LeBonheur

    Kossuth Middle School’s FBLA recently delivered 13 boxes of toys to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.  These toys will be distributed to children receiving treatment at the hospital. This is the second community service project the club has completed this year. Earlier in the year, the club raised $400 for the March of Dimes. - Written by FBLA Reporter Andrew Ketchum
  • David Hollowell of ACHS Earns State Runner-up for Boys Singles in 3A Tennis

    Alcorn Central had a great showing at the 3A Individual State Tennis Tournament this year.  They took four courts to the tournament:  Ande Mills and Reid Price, Boys Doubles; Trevor Smith and Ally Gray, Mixed Doubles; Anna Bowling, Girls Singles; and David Hollowell, Boys Singles.  Although they did not win, each of them earned a spot in the second round of the state semi-finals, and David Hollowell made it all the way to the finals!  Pictured is Hollowell, the new State Runner-up for Boys Singles in 3A Tennis.  Congratulations to the ACHS tennis team for a great year!

  • KHS FFA Chapter Connects with Local Farmers & Wins Chapter Proceeds

    INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, March 16, 2012/National FFA Organization) – Thousands of FFA members from hundreds of FFA chapters in 12 states have finished a huge effort to connect with local farmers, and one local chapter has taken home a nice prize for their efforts.
     
    The Kossuth FFA Chapter received 78 votes from local farmers and placed sixth in the Mississippi standings. As a result, they’ll receive a $1250 FFA Certificate of Credit to be used for FFA expenses like official FFA jackets, chapter supplies and registration fees for national FFA leadership conferences.   • KHS Teacher Helps Students Prepare for Subject Area Testing

    Kossuth High's U.S. History teacher, Chris Byrd, recently hosted evening tutoring sessions to help local juniors prepare for the U.S. History Subject Area Test.  Students from Alcorn School District and Corinth School District took advantage of the tutoring. Pictured is the group of students who benefited from Mr. Byrd's sessions.

    Congratulations to Amy Williams of Glendale Elementary and Donnita Ginn of Kossuth High for being selected as the Alcorn School District Rotary Teachers of the Year for grades K-6 and 7-12.  The teachers were honored at the Rotary Club luncheon on Thursday, April 26.  Superintendent of Education Gina Smith celebrated this special award with the teachers along with both GES Principal Robert Strickland and KHS Principal Matt Smith.   • Kossuth FFA Judging Teams Make It Look as Easy as 1, 2, 3

    On April 13, Mississippi State University hosted sixteen different FFA State Career Development Events.  Kossuth FFA Teams represented themselves quite well, with the chapter entering four teams, three of which placed in the top three in their contest.  Click on the story link to view the complete article.

  • ACTC Health Science Students Host Health Fair

    On Friday, April 20, 2012, Mrs. Tila Johnson's Health Science students at the Alcorn Career and Technology Center hosted a Health Fair for all kindergarten classes in the Alcorn School District.  ACTC Health Science students taught and assisted kindergarten students as they visited the stations of Dental Health, Exercise, Safety, Nutrition, Height and Weight, Hand washing and Vision Screening. Mrs. Nan Nethery's Teacher Academy students also assisted with the event by providing the students with coloring and reading activities.  Click on the story link to view more photos.
  • ACTC Hosts 40th Annual FFA Banquet

    The Alcorn Career and Technology Center hosted their 40th annual FFA Banquet on Friday, April 20, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. in the MSU Extension Center.  The night's events included a dinner and program, which highlighted FFA events of the year, FFA awards, recognition of honored guests and FFA officers performing opening and closing ceremonies.
